CULTURAL ISSUES DENIED - LARGER THAN LIFE WITH OFFICERS ADMITTING THERE IS A CULTURAL ISSUE!

FOLKS I keep on posting about this issue, because it represents perhaps one of the biggest ones with in the Queensland Police 'Service'....

In the past few months, senior QPS management denied they have a cultural issue. It does however go much much further than Domestic Violence, with police officers being called out by their own colleagues for having attitudes towards Indigenous folk, and people who have a mental illness (with police calling them spoonheads!).

The thing is, this DOES NOT REFLECT COMMUNITY STANDARDS, NOR COMMUNITY EXPECTATIONS IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM!

Again, I say the only way to have this issue dealt with is to have Civilian Oversight into Policing - particularly around the QPS complaint system, is to have a Civilian Oversight system that reflects the ACTUAL standards expected from police.

And for everyone that says "Oh, QPS are doing something about it" or "this problem only reflects a small percentage of police". Well the answer to that is, look at the recent Facebook Group where a VERY LARGE PERCENTAGE of police were caught out being racist and homophobic, and ONLY 6 officers were 'Counselled' out of 1000+ who participated!

And, don't forget the issue of the 'thin blue line of silence' where there is a general expectation of turning a blind eye to wrongdoing! If you have 10 officers in a room, and only one of them does the wrong thing and the other 9 officers turn a blind eye - every one of those 10 officers is bad. Not just the 1!

I have also noted comments from participants here about there being a problem with police Australia wide - unfortunately petitions on a State level need to be specific to the State being addressed.
