WHEN WILL THE ONGOING ISSUE OF PRIVACY VIOLATIONS END?
FOLKS - tonight I write to you as we have passed the 47,000 mark, leaving us with under 3,000 signatures to reach our target.
The article attached is a media release from the Crime and Corruption Commission, who are prosecuting a 'former' police officer for accessing private citizen's information on QPrime (the QPS Database). Yet again, we have privacy at such a LOW priority for this Government and Queensland Police, that police officers continue to commit criminal offences to get access to YOUR information.
SHOULD WE BE CONCERNED?
Yes definitely. This issue has been ongoing for years, and only a very small percentage of police officers caught out doing this are ever prosecuted! The Media did an investigation into this a few years ago, and something like 90% of them GET AWAY WITH IT.
The thing is, just how would you ever find out if you have had your information accessed illegally by a police officer? If you are concerned, you can to a Right to Information request here, and ask for the access logs for your file. Every time a police officer logs into QPrime to do a search for a person, it is supposed to log their ID, so they can identify who accessed the information and when. The thing is, a LOT of police, when illegally accessing YOUR details do so using another police officer's log in details to hide their activities.
