EXCESSIVE FORCE - A NICE WAY OF SAYING "CRIMINAL ASSAULT"

FOLKS - tonight Channel 9 in Queensland aired a couple of police stories.

The one that got the BIG headlines was about the officer who died on duty - with police whinging about the cap on attending funerals for EVERYONE - not just police.

The one that did not get a huge headline was the TWO cases of police using excessive force - also known as a CRIMINAL ASSAULT. One of the cases involved a police officer taking out his frustration on a member of the public filming him while on duty. The last time I looked filming police was NOT A CRIME! As the story said, police in both cases were caught out with 'allegations' of 'excessive force' and had the maters before the courts withdrawn to just a fine instead of a hearing in the court - NO DOUBT THE POLICE DAMAGE CONTROL EXPERTS WERE AT PLAY HERE BECAUSE AFTER ALL QUEENSLAND POLICE DON'T LIKE TO AIR THEIR DIRTY LINEN IN PUBLIC DO THEY!

So how is this accountable?

This media outlet is first in line to publish stories about how hard police officers have it. They have had a run on stories of police being assaulted while doing their duty lately in what I believe is a marketing exercise to gain the sympathy of the public. YET when it comes to stories about police misconduct, corruption and violence towards members of the public, the stories - if they get aired - are short.

THIS I BELIEVE IS FAR FROM 'BALANCED', TRANSPARENT, AND ACCOUNTABLE. I certainly is not acceptable.
