UNFORTUNATELY MORE OF THE SAME - IT NEVER ENDS WITH QPS!

FOLKS - IN THE USA THERE ARE TWO THINGS HAPPENING THAT SEEM TO BE WORTH WHILE PURSUING HERE IN AUSTRALIA.

There is a very strong campaign firstly to end qualified immunity. In Australia, this is actually written into the legislation. In the States, it is based on case law, however it amounts to the same thing - police are rarely held responsible for their wrongful actions while on duty.

Second, there is a partly successful push to have police who are sacked for wrongdoing put onto a database so they can't be employed by another law enforcement agency. In Australia, a lot of police 'resign' before any disciplinary action can take place, leaving them free to apply for another job with various agencies including other State Police 'Services', the AFP, State Security Services or Dept of Corrections.
I see some issues here.

Firstly, allowing police to resign without facing the music for official misconduct or wrongdoing is letting them off the hook, and our legislation needs to be re-written so they can be pursued/prosecuted if they do resign. Second, any issue of wrongdoing should go on their record regardless of whether they have resigned or not.

WE NEED A NATIONAL DATABASE TO CAPTURE THESE THUGS so they can't be re-employed by another Police 'Service'.
