COMPENSATION AND POLICE MISCONDUCT!

FOLKS, something I resent to the extreme is the fact that when a person sues the police, it comes out of the tax payer's pocket - AKA mine and yours!

I think individual police should have to pay out of their own pockets should any wrongdoing be proven. I know the police union will say "police won't do the job if they are subject to this" BUT here is a solution (something that the petition I started has in it's list of demands) - each police officer carries their own insurance. If the police officer has been proven to do any misconduct, that goes to their insurance rating, and they pay accordingly. If the insurer deems the officer uninsurable - the officer then becomes unemployable as a police officer! The victim then gets paid by the insurance company.

I - as a health care worker have to be insured. My employer insists on it and pays it for me as part of my employment conditions.
When I apply for jobs, I always get asked if I had been subject to any disciplinary proceedings, and I have to have several checks concerning my criminal history and suitability to work with vulnerable people and children (two separate checks).

Why then should police not be subjected to the same checks? A lot of professions have to have this done these days, and most have to carry professional indemnity insurance. Companies also insure themselves against the potential wrongdoing of staff they employ as well.

Currently, a police officer that does misconduct still stay employed. A good example is the 90% of police in Queensland who breach the privacy of civilians by accessing QPrime to find out information for their own purposes - have NO sanctions made against them (verified folks - before you ask). The insurance set up would offer a solution to this, by making such police unemployable.
