POLICE VIOLENCE - WHY HAS NOTHING BEEN DONE?

IN 2016 THE CRIME AND CORRUPTION COMMISSION PUBLISHED A REPORT ABOUT POLICE BRUTALITY! Yes, that is now over 4 YEARS AGO.

So you have to ask yourself a reasonable question - just what has been done about this issue?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

In Queensland as all other States, violence against police officers doing their duty is seen as a much more serious issue - indeed any violence against any front line emergency service worker is a serious issue and should attract more serious penalties in the courts - no one has an argument against that at all!

HOWEVER - and this is a HUGE HOWEVER - we should expect much higher standards from Police Officers. Using your badge and uniform to satisfy a sadistic psychological need for violence should also attract much higher penalties.

RESEARCH - and ADVOCATES FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS have recently come out to state that the incidence of domestic violence is much more prevalent among police officers than the general community! Yes that is correct, at almost DOUBLE the rate found in the civilian community - added to the complicating factor of police covering up for their mates!

As a 60 year old, I have to really ask myself this question:

WHAT EXAMPLE ARE WE SENDING TO OUR YOUNG PEOPLE BY ALLOWING POLICE - THE VERY PEOPLE WE SHOULD BE TEACHING TO TRUST POLICE - TO GET AWAY WITH VIOLENCE AGAINST THEIR PARTNERS AND CHILDREN - AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY?

Join us in our efforts for change folks. Get other people to sign this petition to send a very clear message to this Government that it is NOT OK to legitimize violence against civilians! WE NEED CIVILIAN OVERSIGHT INTO POLICE COMPLAINTS AND MISCONDUCT ISSUES - AND WE NEED IT URGENTLY!
