MEDIA RELEASE
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Training and Skills The Honourable Yvette D'Ath
Statement from the Attorney-General
This morning I have announced the State Government is withdrawing the appeal before the Full Federal Court in the case of Wotton and Others vs the State of Queensland and Commissioner of the Police Service.
The matter has been ongoing in the Federal Court since August 2013.
Justice Mortimer brought down the decision on 5 December last year.
On advice, the State lodged an appeal before the expiry of the appeal period. Having received a further considered legal advice about the State’s prospects of success on appeal, the State is withdrawing the appeal to the Full Federal Court.
I note that there are continuing matters still being resolved by the Trial Judge and those matters continue before the Court.
