How does Big Pharma create patent monopolies?

Big pharma companies use a little known, archaic law from the world of chemistry. The law is known as ‘compound claims.’ 

What Is a Compound Claims Chemical Patent Law?

"Chemical patents are obtained by scientists to afford them the exclusive right to use specific chemicals, molecules, compounds, etc., in experimentation and product development, as well as the ability to prevent others from using the said substance for a set period."

On reading this, how does it strike you? What about the term 'exclusive right'? and 'prevent others from using said substance'. 

This is the scam. Big pharma companies spend $ billions on patenting every molecule it can get its hands on. If one happens to get approved, it's hats in the air, yachts on order, happy days...

...except it's not a happy day for patients. That's when the skyhigh prices, power marketing, and denial of side effects kick in. The rest you know.
