Petition updatePut the Canadian flag firstIt was nice while it lasted

For the past six months, the Canadian flag has enjoyed uncontested supremacy in the nation’s capital. With no governor general, the GG’s flag could not replace the Maple Leaf on the flagpole, as federal rules say it must, wherever the GG goes. On Canada Day, for example, the Canadian flag flew atop the Peace Tower all day--a surprisingly rare occasion.

But those days are gone. With Mary Simon appointed to fill the role, Ottawa says our flag must, once again, be taken down from the position of honour wherever she is, and the GG’s flag flown in its place. The same directive applies to flags of lieutenant governors in every province, AND to those of the British royal family. The Canadian flag comes second to them all.

It’s time to finally change the government’s flag edict. Sure, fly the flags of the GG, Lt-Gov's, and visiting royals, but their personal flags should never trump the national flag. To usher a change, sign this petition if you haven’t already, and share it so others can do the same.
