Leading Food-Safety Scientist Calls for Cancer Warnings on Processed Meat

A leading UK food-safety scientist is now calling for warning labels on processed meat. Professor Chris Elliott, founder of the Institute for Global Food Security at Queen's University Belfast, has told a new BBC Panorama investigation that there is a strong link between nitrates and nitrites used in products such as bacon and ham and bowel cancer. He has criticised the Food Standards Agency's response and called for warning labels on packaging.
This is exactly the kind of basic information consumers deserve.
Processed meat is already classified as carcinogenic to humans. People should not have to discover that from a documentary, newspaper article or cancer charity. The warning should be where people make the decision to buy it. Please keep signing and sharing our petition calling for cancer warnings on processed meat.
