Michael & Bryan’s Vision

Michael & Bryan’s Vision
The Issue
Dear Netflix, we are signing this petition to avoid another live-action atrocity. Avatar: the Last Airbender (The Legend of Aang in som regions) has a warm spot in the hearts of millions worldwide. Generations have shared this masterpiece together. Personally, I have two nieces and a nephew who love the show like I did as a child. Flashbacks and memories pour in my head watching their reactions. I fell in love with the Avatar universe when I was eight years old. I fell in love with Michael & Bryan’s Vision. I know there is a lot of work that goes into the production if a series. I couldn’t begin to list out the thousands of steps it takes, but as a consumer I want to make sure this is right. I know Netflix and Nickelodeon want to make it right and profitable, but I want it to be believable. At the age of thirteen, my cousin and I went to see The Last Airbender film on opening weekend. I had been looking forward to it for a year or two. I would check Google every other week just to make sure it was really happening. Twenty-two year old me has had very similar feelings to the Netflix adaptation. That fire that burned inside me while watching the show for the first time was rekindled. I desperately want my experience with the newest adaptation to be different than M. Night Shyamalan’s vision. That is why I write this to you Netflix. Shyamalan wanted nothing to do with the original creators, so we received a catastrophe. A catastrophe that was not Michael & Bryan’s Vision. The Avatar fan base is a passionate one. We have sat and watched and rewatched the show so many times that we could recite the script word for word. I’m not making any demands, because that’s not what Michael and Bryan would want. I just want you to know that the fans want a voice too. Millions of fans that love Mike & Bryan’s vision. I feel that that’s the only way to reignite the fan base. I understand that there is a business to these things, but for the sake of the original fans, new fans, and future fans please reconsider accepting the departure of Micheal DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Consider giving them the creative control that built the Avatar Universe. Consider letting us see Michael & Bryan’s Vision. The vision that was promised to them as creators and to us as viewers.
Sincerely,
Avatar Fans
