The Issue

It's great that many of our favorite classic Disney cartoons are on Disney+, but I noticed that one very popular cartoon is missing, which happens to be Aladdin: The Series.

So far, the streaming platform has:

  • the original 1992 Aladdin movie
  • The Return of Jafar (which serves as the pilot)
  • Aladdin and the King of Thieves (which serves as the series finale)
  • the 2019 remake
  • the crossover episode of the Hercules TV Series titled Hercules and the Arabian Night (which features characters from the Aladdin TV franchise)

...and yet Aladdin: The Series is missing.

It has been years since Disney+ launched and so far, it has failed to make the series available. It should have been on there since Day One (on November 12, 2019). This is unacceptable and very disappointing!

Comic Book Resources discusses that one possible reason the show is currently absent is the Genie's many pop culture references, which may violate certain streaming rights. However, since the Genie has many pop cultural references within the original film and its sequels, there should be no excuse why this show should not be on Disney+ at all. No ifs, ands or buts!

This well-loved show was nominated and won many Annie and Emmy awards including:

  • Outstanding Animated Program (22nd Daytime Emmy Awards)
  • Best Individual Achievement in Storyboarding in the Field of Animation (23rd Annie Awards)
  • Outstanding Achievement in Animation (23rd Daytime Emmy Awards)

If the show is under supposed scrutiny, there should be a message about outdated cultural depictions like with Dumbo, Pinocchio and The Jungle Book.

We need to let Disney know that we demand (and wish) to have this series on Disney+. Please sign and share to spread the word.
