The Issue

Living by the water has always been a dream for many, including myself. The soothing sound of moving live water, the scenic views, and the vibrant ecosystem of our rivers as well as on our farmland that creates a unique way of life that is both peaceful and invigorating. However, this idyllic existence is now under threat. An AI data center is being constructed in our area, which poses a significant risk to both our environment and our way of life.

The proposed data center will draw an enormous amount of water for cooling its servers, potentially depleting our waterways and threatening the aquatic life that depends on it. Additionally, the construction and operation of such a facility are likely to lead to increased noise pollution and the emission of heat that could alter the local climate. These changes could devastate the delicate balance of our ecosystem.

Furthermore, data centers are notorious for their high electricity consumption which often leads to intensified local power demands and sometimes necessitates the building of additional infrastructure that further disrupts the natural landscape. This is an industry that consumes approximately 1% of the world's electricity use, a figure that's only rising as more data centers come online.

Global carbon emissions from data centers have been estimated to rival that of the aviation industry, making it vital to consider alternative methods and locations that could mitigate these environmental impacts. Innovative solutions, such as building data centers in cooler climates or implementing more advanced energy and water-efficient technologies, could provide a way forward without endangering our precious ecosystem.

We need to act now to protect our waterways and ensure that future generations can also enjoy the beauty and serenity we have been fortunate enough to experience. By signing this petition, you are standing with us in opposition to the construction of the AI data center in our area. Let's raise our voices and demand a more sustainable approach to data management that does not come at the expense of our environment and our quality of life.

Please sign this petition to stop the construction of this data center and safeguard our natural resources.
