Clarification edit

Hello all,

Thank you for supporting our School Board vote for a simple pause on passage of all the proposed changes by asking the board to keep start times "as is" while better solutions can be made.

In response to some comments (further highlighting the need for a pause) that stated the petition was incorrect I updated it slightly to clarify attendance for choice schools. According to the November 28th presentation, all schools become neighborhood schools. If there is room, after these are filled with those in the walk/transportation zone, then those students outside that area may attend with their own transportation. If there is not room following the transition, then students may attend through a lottery system. Also according to the proposal, current DWO students will not have to participate in a lottery system to be at the school outside of their transportation zone, but (very importantly) this assumes point #1 is satisfied (that there is room for additional students). If there is not room, current DWO students would be guaranteed a spot ahead of a lottery, as space opens up.

This is easy to see with a hypothetical: Washington becomes a neighborhood school and is immediately filled with those within the walk/transportation zone. There can be no guarantee in this case that a current Washington student outside the zone gets to attend when there is no space. This is an extreme example, but to make a point that there will be the reality of limited space with this transition.
