PUSD Football Season #LetThemPlay

On Monday, Tulare County was cleared to have contact sports, including football. Visalia and Tulare school district allowed the start of football season, yet PUSD didn’t. PUSD canceled Football, Volleyball, and Waterpolo season even though we are cleared to play by the state ordinance. The football teams of PUSD have been preparing for months. Every time we are told to stop practices we stop, and every time we’re cleared we start up again. This has been on and off for months and is weighing on all football players in PUSD. As student athletes we feel that we deserve this season, especially the seniors. We’ve watched as our whole school year got stripped from us, and now we have to watch other sports play and other football teams play, but not us. As students involved in sports, it is a common factor for alot of athletes that sports motivates them to do better in school. Since COVID-19 and distance learning started, motivation for school and grades have gone down drastically. Not only will football give us a piece of a “ normal year” which we watched get taken away from us, but it will also give motivation for hundred of student athletes to finish the academic year strong.
