The Issue

In a devastating turn of events, my beloved fiancée, Erica McNeill, was tragically taken from us in Harnett County. The pain and grief are indescribable, and to add to the heartache, her killer is only facing charges of second-degree murder. But we, Erica’s loved ones, know there is ample evidence to support a first-degree murder charge—a thorough investigation has clearly shown intent and premeditation.

Erica's life was unjustly cut short, and every moment without her serves as a painful reminder of her absence. Unfortunately, the local judicial system, led by Wayne Coats, who appears to lack the commitment to pursue justice for Erica as zealously as the evidence demands, is standing idly by. This cannot stand. We need robust leadership that not only values justice but also fights relentlessly for it.

Harnett County deserves a justice system where victims and their families are heard, respected, and ensured of due process. At the moment, it feels like Erica's story and the severity of her case are being overlooked. According to legal experts and the compelling evidence available, this should be a case of first-degree murder. The criteria for such a charge, including evidence of intent and a preconceived plan, are undoubtedly present.

Statistics indicate that only a portion of murder cases are treated with the seriousness they inherently deserve in this jurisdiction. This kind of oversight is not unfamiliar in a judicial system that seems overwhelmed or apathetic. We cannot accept this complacency.

Our call to action is simple: demand justice by insisting that the charge against Erica's killer is elevated to first-degree murder. Let’s examine our legal processes with the scrutiny they desperately need. Let's urge Wayne Coats to act appropriately or take a step back for new leadership that respects and upholds the law.

By signing this petition, you are standing with Erica, her memory, her family, and her right to justice. Justice for her means justice for all of us. Please join me in calling for the prosecution to re-evaluate this case with the gravity it demands. Sign to seek justice for Erica McNeill.
