The Issue

We DALLAS BTS ARMY respectfully submit this proposal to request that the City of Dallas illuminate key city landmarks—including local iconic landmarks in the Dallas Skyline such as the Omni, Reunion Tower, Bank of America Plaza, AT&T Discovery District and the bridges spanning the Trinity River—in purple in honor of Kim Seok-jin of global music phenomenon BTS, whose solo world tour will include a stop in Dallas on July 22nd and July 23rd of 2025. This marks the first time a member of BTS is able to come to our city, a milestone in Dallas’s emergence as a global destination for international music and tourism.

Why This Moment Matters

Kim Seok-jin, affectionately known as “Jin,” is a member of BTS, the most successful K-pop group in the world and one of the most impactful music acts globally.

The BTS ARMY (the group’s devoted fanbase) is an internationally organized and socially conscious community known for generating significant economic and philanthropic contributions worldwide.

Dallas’ inclusion in this historic tour presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to welcome a global fanbase and position the city as a desirable location for future large-scale BTS, K-pop and international entertainment events.

Economic and Cultural Impact

BTS concerts consistently sell out stadiums, draw tens of thousands of international tourists, and generate millions in local tourism revenue through hotels, restaurants, transportation, and retail.

According to a 2022 report by the Hyundai Research Institute, BTS generates an estimated $5 billion annually for South Korea’s economy, a testament to their market power.

Hosting this tour stop could serve as a gateway to securing the 2026–2027 BTS comeback world tour, which would bring even greater economic and cultural value to our city

Dallas - A City That Welcomes the World

We propose the city light up the following in BTS purple between July 21-23, to coincide with the July 22nd and July 23rd tour dates.

Omni Dallas

Reunion Tower

Bank of America Plaza

AT&T Discovery District

Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

Lighting the city in purple would reflect Dallas’s welcoming spirit, southern hospitality, cultural inclusivity, and forward-thinking leadership in celebrating the arts.

Why Purple?

According to BTS, Purple symbolizes Love, Trust, and Loyalty - a deep bond between BTS and their fans (ARMY).

The meaning originated from one of it's members, V (Kim Taehyung), during a 2016 fan event, where he said,

"Do you know what purple means? Purple is the last color of the rainbow. Purple means I will trust and love you for a long time."

Since then, "I purple you", has become a signature phrase between BTS and ARMY, representing lasting love, support, and connection.

This proposal is more than a tribute—it is an investment in the city’s identity as a vibrant, inclusive, and internationally recognized city. Lighting Dallas in purple sends a strong, symbolic message: that we welcome the world, and we celebrate the power of culture to connect and uplift communities.

We thank you for your leadership and consideration and would be honored to assist in any way needed.

Below are just a few examples of other cities who have “gone purple” to welcome BTS and ARMY traveling in from all over the world.

*Tampa Florida has agreed to turn purple coinciding with Jin's tour dates in that State for July 26-27, 2025

We would be trilled for Dallas to join in showing support and love for Jin as well.
