Our Environment needs our attention

मत्तेवाडा(Matewada) vilage near Sahnewal (Ludhiana) is in news from past few days, it was being said that their is a forest near this village that covers 4000 acres of land and there is Panchayti land ,of which 1000 acres of land has been ordered to be acquired for industrial purpose . A resolution which has been signed by heads of all nearby villages,but people of those villages were unaware of it and now are against this resolution.They are raising their voice to stop this acquisition of land ,which they were using for farming before.

Government is saying that forest area is not going to be used for construction and that, its the land which is in proximity to the forest that they have bought from village panchayts (clarifying its not land under the forest ) ,the point is even if they have planned to use land just 3kms away from forest(Panchayt land acquired without taking consent of people residing their) then also it can prove harmful for environment.

Secondly Government is saying that Ludhiana has been called "Manchester" of India just because of its industries and they want to develop Matewada region ,which is backward by setting up industrial units there.Our point is what people will do with industries when they will find it hard to survive as a result of environmental degradation , caused by air and water pollution(,factory waste will be disposed into river Satluj, which has been followed as a practice to dispose off industrial waste in Punjab) .

Another point to quote here is that Government is just saying to not to even touch forest area and that they will start construction from 3kms from forest area but in fact they will gradually use the forest area too.

Times are gone when there was a huge area covered under forests ,now it's only about 6.12% forest area in Punjab, which is lowest among other states of the Nation.

We can not let this happen at any cost as it's consequences will be very dangerous for human beings, plants, animals and planet earth as a whole.  It will lead to rise in pollution level which is already there in that particular area of Punjab ,more than other regions of the state.

It's the high time to ask Government to increase area under forests.We need to interfere as environmental protection is important if we want sustainable development. we can save present and future generations from bearing the harm of environmental degradation by raising our voice if anything against environment is going to happen.

We need to force the authorities concerned  to immediately stop this action towards our environment.

It's our responsibility to become aware , if anything related with environment needs our attention.
