Dear Levi Johnson,
We the undersigned workers of Publix are concerned about our low wages, and lack of agency over our schedules.
Consequently, we respectfully and formally request that Publix make immediate improvements to our wages and schedules. Specifically, we want:
- the minimum wage of all employees be raised to $18.00 per hour
- a vast improvement in scheduling practices and communication between management and workers about scheduling, focusing on several specifics, namely that
- part time workers be guaranteed at least 20 hours per week given their availability permits
- greater attention paid to the availability requests of employees
- greater worker control over their schedules, especially for those with children or other dependents
- workers of each department have a say in what schedules best suit their departments needs and their needs as people.
We engage in this collective, concerted activity under the protection of Federal Law, specifically, Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act. We are also prepared to engage in further actions that are also protected by the Act.
We anxiously await your response to our request.
Sincerely,
