Paratransit is “on-call” transit service for individuals whose disabilities prevent them from riding traditional fixed-route transit services all or some of the time. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires all public transit systems that provide fixed-route bus and rail services to also provide paratransit services. 

The resulting services are complicated, inaccessible and unreliable.  Often, people with disabilities are left waiting or stranded because of an antiquated, inadequate system. Right now, according to the ADA, if you do not live within three quarter of a mile of a functioning bus or rail line, or if you don't work within three quarter of a mile of a functioning but bore rail line, you are DENIED paratransit.  This means that if a bus line is restricted to functioning for a couple of hours a day, you are stranded for the rest of the day. We are calling on transit policy officials to make changes and improve the quality of lives of many who live with disabilities. 

We are asking you to sign and support restructuring ADA required paratransit:

Demand 1:  That ADA required paratransit be restructured as a regional SAME DAY, ON-DEMAND service.

Demand 2:  That ADA required paratransit be linked to the inability to drive, NOT to fixed route transit.
