Dear Supporter,

Thanks to you, we have over 6,500 signatures on our petition to have the sex offender registry declared a human rights violation by the United Nations.

Nearly one year ago, in November 2022, we sent a letter to the Commissioner of Human Rights, informing him about the petition.

Since that time, Florida Action Committee (FAC) and the Miami Coalition to Advance Racial Equality (MCARE) have been working together to raise awareness of the homeless crisis in Florida, and specifically in Miami-Dade county.

We are excited to share that representatives from FAC and MCARE will be joining a team from the Miami University School of Law and the Human Rights committee at the national ACLU to attend the Human Rights Committee meetings in Geneva Switzerland in October 2023.

The opportunity to speak will be narrowly focused on the homeless crisis and how the Sex Offender Residency Restrictions (SORRs) contribute to the homelessness by forcing people to live 1000 or more feet from certain locations.

In densely populated cities like Miami, the restricted area covers most of the city leaving few affordable places for a registered person to live legally.

In Miami FL, 75% of the unsheltered homeless are registered citizens.   Many have homes and family to be with during the day, but they are forced to live on the street at night due to residency restrictions

One reason for the in-person presentation in Geneva Switzerland next month is to ask the UN Human Rights Committee to make a stop in Miami FL during their 2024 U.S. tour to witness first-hand the homeless crisis due in part to the inhumane residency restrictions imposed on registered citizens.

Visit our website at www.FloridaActionCommittee,org to find more information about the Geneva meetings and how you can donate to support our mission and the representatives traveling to Geneva.

Please continue to share this petition with at least three people you know who have not yet signed it. Ask them to click this link and sign: www.Change.org/FAC-humanrightsforall

Your support is greatly needed and appreciated.
