Archery in Richmond Hill is not a dream - not if we try

Hello fellow archers and aficionado friends;

It's been 3 years. Long time no see.
The Ontario Line construction is still underway. As of July 2026 the E.T. Seton Archery Range has been cut down to a third of its original size and boarded up even more. The targets now are on the North-northeast edge, forcing archers to shoot at and potentially losing arrows at the slope where people come down from the Science Centre. The usual entrance is now a boarded corridor in order to redirect users to come in from the south end. It's far from an ideal situation.

Even after the construction completes, it's hard to say what's to come next. For this very reason, the GTA needs another public archery range. Not one gatekept by high membership fees or conditioned by beginner community centre classes, but one that freely allows archers with their own equipment to practice at their own pace, under the supporting watch of fellow community members.

April this year, we reminded the City Council that we're still asking. They haven't forgotten us, but we're not high on their priorities list yet.

That's why we're making the first move, even when it's hard to with all the bureaucratic wherewithal.
Late last year, a Strong Towns chapter was founded in Richmond Hill with the mission of improving our neighbourhood one small doable step at a time. With the collaboration and support of the Central-South Richmond Hill Community Action Table and other charitable bodies, I'd like to present to you our latest initiative: Archery Day Richmond Hill 2026.

As of the moment, reception by the local community has been very positive and adult general admission has already sold out. However, morning session spots for youth archers aged 14-18 are still open! 

I'd like to invite all of you to sign up for the event's waitlist, as a sign of solidarity and show of support, to show anew the City of Richmond Hill how present our desire for such a public amenity. If you can, show up to spectate the event as well, so to show that we are willing to come see how many friends are among us whom really want to get down and enjoy the sport together.
