Remove all BAME workers from high risk Coronavirus areas
Remove all BAME workers from high risk Coronavirus areas
The Issue
Why are we losing a large proportion of BAME groups across public services to Covid-19?
Earlier reports have indicated that a large percentage of people from BAME background are disproportionately at risk and have been affected by Covid-19 including high mortality rate.
There is also on going concerns that the NHS especially, are continuing to lose minority groups on a daily basis to this virus and the government needs to do something about it.
For example, out of the 119 NHS workers reported to have died from Covid-19, people from BAME background represents a staggering 64%, despite the fact that only 20% of NHS staff are from BAME background.
I ask that Public Health England consider this investigation as a matter of urgency. I appeal that BAME Group be shielded from all high risk Covid-19 areas in all public services whilst the government carries out their investigation. I also ask that BAME groups be given additional PPE as part of extra measures to protect BAME and minimise their risk of contraction.
As we know Covid-19 does not discriminate and can affect anyone of any race but it certainly has demonstrated that there’s clinical diversity that needs urgent attention and investigation.
We can not continue to lose people like this, families have been devastated, lives shattered and dreams turned to nightmares. These frontline workers deserves more from the government, they have passionately served their communities for years and even decades. We can not continue to watch them fall to the cold hands of sudden death in the line of duty.
If the government delays in taking urgent action, our public services may suffer irreversible damage and consequences as a result.
BAME group represents a high percentage of staff in all public services. The government has a duty of care to look after their workforce NOW.
Thank you.
