Petition updateNYS Parole Officers Should Join NYSCOPBAPEF Remains Silent While Parolees Get Violent

Happy New Year to our 1,265 petition supporters. Thank you for your support! It truly means a lot to us as we continue to advocate for better representation, benefits and working conditions for our fellow New York State Parole Officers.

In April 2023, we reported that a convicted sex offender bit a Parole Officer who was trying to arrest him at the Staten Island parole office. The parolee bit the right arm of the Parole Officer and continued resisting arrest. Injuries suffered by the officer included bite-mark indentations, lacerations, bleeding, redness and pain.

The union representing Parole Officers, the Public Employees Federation (PEF), failed to advocate for the injured officer in the media and expose the dangers of the “Less is More” parole reform law.

Then, in September 2023, we reported that a Senior Parole Officer was assaulted by a parolee as she attempted to handcuff him at the Staten Island parole office.

The officer’s injuries included a concussion, bruised eyes, a slanted nose, lacerations and bleeding to her ankles, redness on her chest and a swollen finger.

Once again, PEF failed to advocate for the injured officer in the media and expose the dangers of “Less is More.”

Since the enactment of “Less is More,” there have been several high-profile parolee involved assaults, rapes, robberies, shootings and murders in which PEF failed to address in the media.

And that’s why we are strongly advocating for Parole Officers to join the powerful New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA).

Unlike PEF, NYSCOPBA advocates for its members and is not afraid to tell the media when the communities we vow to protect are being exploited and are more unsafe than ever. Click on the link below for an in-depth look at NYSCOPBA’s advocacy.

In closing, if you're an active NYS Parole Officer, Senior Parole Officer or Parole Revocation Specialist and agree that we should be represented by a law enforcement union, please opt out of PEF by using the link below.
