Growing up, I have been a witness to the damaging effects of mass vaccination campaigns. I myself was asthmatic when growing up as a boy - and this impacted my playing and social wellbeing. I was told its a hereditary disease, but I knew no one from my grandparents to my parents who had the disease. While growing up, I always wondered if my schoolmates who were epileptic or had Downs syndrome also inherited those diseases from their kin. The explanation made little sense - but I was also little concerned with that correlation my mind wanted to make sense of then. This profoundly personal narrative turned all the more poignant in 2018 when my own son received the MMR vaccine and nearly lost his life due to a subsequent measles infection that severely compromised his immune system. It’s a pain no parent should endure – witnessing adverse effects such as paralysis, death, or autism resulting from immunizations is heart-wrenching. Before more families suffer, it is crucial that we demand rigorous local, independent studies and trials before any mass vaccination campaigns are implemented.

In Kenya, the urgency of informed consent and accountability with regard to vaccinations cannot be overstated. While global health programs often operate under the premise of safeguarding public health, it's time we take cognizance of the potential risks and establish measures that protect our citizens from the uncertainties that mass vaccinations can present. This petition calls for an immediate moratorium on all mass vaccination campaigns until comprehensive local scientific studies and trials are conducted by independent bodies.

Recently, in the month of July 2025, Kenya was supported to run a Measles and Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) campaign for 10 days. According to the PharmacoVigilance Electronic Reporting System (PVERS), that month registered 499 adverse effects following immunization (AEFI). Over 491 came directly from the TCV vaccine, and no one knows the extent of those injuries and the specific symptoms or adverse effects reported - just reports the instance bluntly. However, VigiAccess, an international drug monitoring system for WHO lists 18,812 AEFIs under the TCV vaccine with a plethora of different expressions of autoimmune disease. Epstein-Barr, Gillian-Barr syndrome, including Death and many other adverse effects. All the while, in the media, there were no reports of these side effects and the few that tried to raise alarm were censored through shadow-banning such videos and alarming posts. It was all eerily reminiscent of the 'new normal' mantra and the disruption that was enforced by government and institutions during the early years of the pandemic in Kenya/Africa.

Furthermore, we seek to shield Kenyans from the unchecked influence of big pharmaceutical corporations and foreign-funded health programs that target both children and adults with novel vaccines. The need for transparency and accountability is paramount. We cannot afford to blindly accept programs that may inadvertently compromise the health and safety of our people without thorough examination and oversight.

We also urge the National, County Assemblies and Ministry of Health to establish a National Vaccine Injury and Compensation Department within its Medical Services Department. Such a body would not only offer protection and redress to those adversely affected but also serve as a watchdog entity, ensuring adherence to safety standards for medicine batches in vaccination procedures and offer checks and balances in oversight to Pharmacy & Poisons Board.
