It is prohibited to advertise prescription drugs to the general public in Canada.However...Right now there is no law in Canada forcing doctors or drug companies to disclose these relationships. There is no way for a patient to find out if their doctor is getting industry money, unless they ask.
The 10 largest pharmaceutical companies in Canada gave more than $151 million to doctors and hospitals across the country over the last two years. But unlike the U.S. and many European countries, Canada has no legislation compelling drug companies to reveal which health-care providers got money or what it was for.
The more I research, the more I realize we need to get laws changed. There are so many things that allow greed and corruption to go unnoticed in our existing health care system.
Please keep sharing and supporting Madi's Law. I believe these types of simple common sense measures will save a lot of lives and prevent a lot of harm. What's more difficult...implementing Madi's Law or having Canadian citizens suffer the preventable loss or harm of a loved one?
