This petition comes down to one question….Is it safe to give a patient a new powerful, mind altering substance, with no way of knowing how they will react and just let them walk out the door? 

My answer is obvious….NO it’s not safe. We need a plan. We need a psychotropic drugs safety waiver. Would it be difficult to implement? Every change has it’s challenges. Would the effort be worth it? Absolutely, in order to prevent the death and harm of human life. 

One of my good friends that successfully takes anxiety medication told me the first anxiety medication prescribed caused her suicidal ideation. The second one agreed with her. This is my point. We could have lost her to suicide with the first anxiety drug. Most patients need multiple attempts before they find the right one. 

One challenge is if a patient was unable to get a caregiver. We can look at other countries psychotropic drugs safety plans as well.The Controlled Drugs Regulations 2013 require every designated body in Scotland to appoint a Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer who is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use and management of controlled drugs within the organisations which they oversee.

I’ve read that Antidepressant and antipsychotic medications may take 6 weeks or more to fully work. A health care professional needs to discuss all side effects with the patient and caregiver. Some people need medications for a short time and others need it long-term. The Doctor can decide how long a caregiver is needed. 

This is completely doable….if we can create the automobile, build sky scrapers, create the internet and send a man to the moon we can most definitely implement a psychotropic drugs safety waiver in Canada ❤️❤️
