The Issue

Please support the request for standard USPS delivery to Brookdale residences, and support a safer location for our local post office.

Residents in the towns on either side of us are provided with home mail delivery, but in Brookdale we do not currently have that option. No one has been able to explain why.

Now, since the fire in December destroyed our post office, residents need to pick up mail in person at the Boulder Creek post office during regular business hours, which means many of us are missing work in order to pick up our mail.  If we had residence delivery this could be avoided.

The damaged location of the Brookdale post office on the corner of Pacific, is not owned by the USPS.  The location does not have parking in front of the building and it does not have street lights.  For those picking up their mail during evening hours you cannot see the street in front of you, which could lead to falls, and you cannot see if anyone else is around, which is unnerving and dangerous.  It is also not the safest place to pull onto the highway, and it increases traffic near two bus stops where people are frequently crossing the highway.

Post office traffic also negatively impacts the residents who live near the post office, reducing the peace and enjoyment of their homes and yards, impacting their children and pets outside, limiting their parking spaces, and reducing the overall value of their homes.

Across the street, it appears that the Brookdale Lodge has space available where a new post office could be housed.  Relocating here would eliminate the burdens on residents of Pacific Ave., eliminate the safety concerns for both walkers and drivers, provide parking and lighting, and would likely increase visits to the other retail spaces near the lodge, as well as to the lodge itself.

Fellow Brookdale residents, please join me in asking the USPS to implement these positive changes that would provide significant improvements for all Brookdale residents.  Thank you.
