SB 381 PASSED the Assembly Judiciary Committee 11-1 on Tuesday.!

We knew the world was watching. Thank you for signing this petition and spreading the word. Numbers matter. Expression of opinion matters. Educating legislators matters.

Here is a note from our California Alliance for Adoptee Rights team.

"What a day. The testimonies were incredible, the committee members were positive, and the room was packed with adoptees, birth parents, and allies standing together for our rights. What a crowd. What determination. What joy.

Thank you to everyone who made calls, sent letters, and showed up today - your voices made a real difference. Thank you to our incredible witnesses Wendy Turk and Gretchen Sisson for their powerful testimony.

Deep gratitude to Lori, Paul, Wendy, Emily, Geneva, and the whole CAAR boots-on-the-ground team - you keep organizing us and making it all happen. Our legal advisor Greg Luce of Adoptee Rights Law Center was invaluable, and we truly honor the collective wisdom of all the adoptee rights activists who came before us - many of whom were in that room today. All with us in our hearts.

And of course, special thanks to our wonderful Senator Aisha Wahab and her hardworking staff.
California adult adoptees are now one step closer to accessing their own original birth certificates.
Next stop: Assembly Appropriations in August. We’re not done - but today, we celebrate!"
