Our Senate Bill, SB381 - Wahab, will be heard in the California Assembly Health Committee Hearing on Tuesday, June 16th at 1:30 p.m. This will take place at 1021 O Street in Sacramento. The bill will provide unrestricted access to original birth certificates to California born adult adoptees.

Our California Alliance for Adoptee Rights team will be there. We invite you and any other concerned people to come and witness this in person. We had at least 40 people in January and it helped our cause immensely. They heard from real people. There was/is no formal opposition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM48Lavd_WY

The bill has already passed the Senate and now faces the Assembly. The pathway is Assembly Health, Judicial, and Appropriations Committees. If it passes all of these, it goes to the Assembly Floor where it needs at least 41 votes in favor.

If it passes the Assembly, it goes back to one more Senate floor vote. This is because we have an author amendment which provides a portion on the confidential Contact Preference form for where a birth mother can write something. (I love you. We have a family hereditary health issue....etc.)

If it passes the Senate again, it goes to the Governor's desk where he can sign or veto.

If you would like to help even more, please join California Alliance for Adoptee Rights on Facebook. We have lots of information there on how to write support letters.

If you would like a template and directions on how to write a support letter and are not a Facebook person, feel free to email me and I'll send you information. PKSTJohns@aol.com

For 50 years, various people and lawmakers have tried to pass similar legislation. 17 states now have unrestricted access. We are hoping to be the 18th. We have had numerous meetings in person and on Zoom with offices of lawmakers. Very positive but nothing is guaranteed. Every person has the fundamental right to know who they are and where they come from.
