Provide Free Menstrual Products at Aynor Middle School

The Issue

Growing up as a student at Aynor Middle School in South Carolina, I have faced the common yet often unspoken challenge of managing a heavy period flow. Many young girls, including myself, find it immensely difficult to always have menstrual products on hand. This struggle is not unique to me, as numerous other girls at our school deal with similar issues, sometimes having to make do without the necessary supplies.

Menstrual products are not luxury items; they are basic necessities for maintaining hygiene and health during our periods. The National Women's Law Center reports that 1 in 5 American girls have either left school early or missed school entirely because they did not have access to menstrual products. This directly impacts our education and self-esteem.

It's a simple truth: when students have access to free menstrual products, they are more comfortable and confident in their school environment. Schools like New York City public schools and some districts in California have already successfully implemented such programs with positive results, seeing increased class attendance and participation among menstruating students.

By providing free menstrual products in girls' bathrooms at Aynor Middle School, we can remove a significant barrier to education and ensure that all students have what they need to succeed. It is our responsibility to foster an inclusive and supportive educational environment, where every student has equal access to the tools they need to succeed—period products included.

Let's urge the school administration, local education authorities, and community leaders to take immediate action on this important matter. By signing this petition, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of many young girls at Aynor Middle School. Please sign and support this crucial initiative to ensure that no student has to face the same challenges again.
