Provide Free Menstrual Cups in LA County High Schools to Fight Period Poverty and Stigma!

The Issue

1 out of 4 students in the US experience period poverty. LA County is no exception. LA County students continue to experience stress/stigma around their periods, which has mental health consequences and compromises their dignity and potential. While CA AB 367 (which is supposed to provide free pads/tampons in all CA public schools) marks significant improvement, it is not an equitable solution to period poverty in LA County schools. Also, what happens to students at night, on weekends, on breaks/holidays and during summer vacation when students can't access products at school?

Menstrual cups are a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution that can help address this issue. They are reusable for up to 10 years, can stay in for up to 12 hours, and contain no harmful chemicals. One cup user can save over $4000-$8000 if they switch to a cup, and can keep 12-16K disposable products out of landfill over a lifetime.

We are asking LA County high schools provide cup education and free menstrual cups for all students who need them. This initiative will not only promote gender equity but is at the intersection of racial, social, and environmental justice. It also contributes to sustainable practices in LA County.

By signing this petition, you support the implementation of free menstrual cups in LA county high schools and take a stand against period poverty. Your signature can make a difference in improving the  wellbeing, health and dignity of LA County high school students!
