Provide Blue Light Cards to Non-Paid Carers

Provide Blue Light Cards to Non-Paid Carers
The Issue
My son is both mentally and physically disabled. He uses a wheelchair and is non-verbal. Caring for him is not just my full-time job; it is my passion and duty as a parent. But as a non-paid carer, I face significant financial challenges. My son has particular dietary needs, often requiring specific, and sometimes costly, foods that he will eat.
For full-time, non-paid carers like myself, support can sometimes feel non-existent. We dedicate countless hours to the wellbeing of our loved ones, often forgoing other employment opportunities in the process. One way we can start making things a little easier is by having access to a Blue Light Card.
Blue Light Cards offer pivotal discounts in a variety of shops, helping with the everyday expenses of living. These cards are currently available to NHS and emergency services workers, recognising the hard work and dedication in serving others. However, the contributions and sacrifices made by non-paid carers should similarly be acknowledged. We provide around-the-clock care, enabling loved ones to have the best quality of life possible, despite financial strains.
By extending Blue Light Cards to non-paid carers, the financial burden could be significantly eased, ensuring we can continue to provide the best care without constant anxiety over costs. The funds saved could turn grocery shopping from a stressful task into an opportunity for better choices, directly benefiting our loved ones' health and happiness.
Please sign this petition to urge decision-makers to include non-paid carers in the Blue Light Card scheme, allowing us the financial relief we desperately need and deserve. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of families who give so much, yet ask for so little in return.
