The Issue

In today's digital world, where artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly integral to various services, protecting personal information is paramount. As someone who values privacy and is acutely aware of the ramifications of data breaches, I am concerned about how my data is used by big AI companies. Data breaches can lead to sensitive information being leaked, causing potential financial losses and serious privacy violations.

AI companies should provide a clear option during account registration that allows them to disable data collection and opt out of having their conversation history used for "training" AI. There is ambiguity about how our data is used, collected, and stored by these companies and whether or not they are secure.

According to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center 81% of adults are concerned about what companies do with their data. Additionally, 67% of adults surveyed have limited knowledge about what the data is used for. This makes it of utmost importance for AI companies to provide transparency of what collected data is used for.

The rapid spread of AI services through search engines, operating systems, and websites increases the magnitude of the risk associated with AI companies collecting YOUR data. Implementing an opt-out option for data collection when accounts are created is not only simple to implement but aligns with the views of America as a whole.

There also is the issue of targeted ads. Many people find targeted ads annoying and big tech can easily change their privacy policies to include selling of data to ad companies supplying these annoying, targeted ads.

Big AI companies like OpenAI, Google, and Meta must choose to provide transparency over profits to keep their userbase satisfied and secure from data breaches and identity theft.

Join me in urging AI companies to offer users the power to choose how their data is collected and used upon creation of an account. Your signature can make a statement to big tech to demand better privacy practices and accountability. Sign now to require an option to disable data collection and protect our digital privacy.
