The Issue

As a frustrated commuter from near Twyford, I am starting this petition to address the chronic lack of parking spaces at Twyford station.

The current car park is dramatically under capacity and fails to meet the growing demand of commuters in the area.

This issue has caused immense inconvenience and frustration for countless individuals like myself who rely on public transportation.

Twyford station's car park reaches full capacity even before the day begins, leaving many commuters with no other option but to park their vehicles outside of designated bays or on nearby verges. This not only creates an unsafe environment but also leads to fines imposed on desperate individuals who have no alternative parking options.

It is evident that other local stations such as Winnersh and Wokingham have received investments in their parking infrastructure, including the addition of multi-story car parks. However, Twyford station has been left behind without any significant improvements.

The growth of the commuter base from Twyford since lockdown and the opening of the Elizabeth line has undoubtedly exacerbated this problem further.

Additionally, there is a lack of decent pedestrianised commuting routes from surrounding areas, making it even more crucial to provide adequate parking facilities for those relying on public transportation.

We call upon Network Rail and their partners GWR (Great Western Railway), TFL (Transport for London), and Apcoa to take immediate action in addressing this issue by investing in additional parking spaces at Twyford station. It is essential that they recognise the urgency and prioritise improving our commuting experience.

By signing this petition, we demand:

1. The construction or expansion of a multistory car park at Twyford station.
2. An increase in overall parking capacity to meet current demand.
3. Improved infrastructure planning considering future growth projections.
4. Enhanced pedestrianised commuting routes connecting surrounding areas with Twyford station - particularly from the south and east of Twyford, from Woodley and Winnersh.

We believe that by addressing the chronic lack of parking spaces at Twyford station, we can alleviate the stress and inconvenience faced by commuters on a daily basis. It is time for Network Rail, GWR, TFL, and Apcoa to fulfill their responsibility in providing adequate parking facilities for Twyford station commuters.

As a resident of Twyford who relies on public transportation, I have personally experienced the frustration caused by the lack of parking spaces at Twyford station. Like many others, I have been forced to leave my car outside designated bays due to the chronic shortage of available spaces in both the station car park and the tiny local car park. This issue has resulted in fines and unnecessary stress in my daily commute. It is time for action!
