Protesters in Iran should be TIME Magazine's Person of the Year

The Issue

If an innocent girl is murdered halfway across the world, does she make a sound? Yes, and the whole world hears her.

The heartbreaking and cataclysmic murder of Mahsa Jina Amini has sparked a revolution in Iran. As of November 12th, the death toll of protesters is 339. Number of children killed, 52. Number of protesters imprisoned, 15,345. And yet, the brave freedom fighters of Iran continue to protest for a secular democracy and regime change with 916 protests in 140 cities and 137 universities throughout Iran.

The faces of the crowds rarely come into focus. But the portrait of one woman, now many women, men and children, are forever imprinted in our hearts and minds.

Please sign this petition to ask that Time Magazine recognize all of the beautiful souls taken, beaten, imprisoned, raped, or tortured and for the 15,000 protesters, journalists, activists, scholars and artists unjustly sitting on death row in Iran. The bravery these women and men have demonstrated is worthy of our shock and awe. They deserve to be Time’s Person of the Year.
