The worst has happened – the Heads Up Alliance (HUA) has just announced that Prime Minister Albanese has decided to set the social media age limit to 16. You’ve got to be taking the mickey with this one! Let’s be crystal clear: social media is a human right in today’s world, and putting this kind of restriction in place is beyond disappointing. I’m enabling my VPN now – realistically, the restriction could be activated at any moment, and there’s no way I’m going to be forced to provide ID just to use social media.
We won’t let this stop us. I’ll be reaching out to our allies at DRWAUS to get their support, and I’m confident they’ll have an update of their own soon. The only silver lining here is that they didn’t go for the even worse option – 18 – but this is still far from ideal.
