THE CITY OF WEST LINN HAS DESIGNATED THE HILLSIDE BORDERING THE WILLAMETTE WETLANDS AS A “PRIORITY DEVELOPMENT AREA” FOR “MEDIUM DENSITY RESIDENTIAL, CURRENTLY IN THE PLANNING STAGE.” West Linn Waterfront Vision Plan Final Draft (page 39/42)
THIS PLAN DIRECTLY DEFIES THE COMMUNITY’S EXPRESS WISHES FOR THIS AREA. “The overwhelming majority of comments in this area were to retain and enhance this as a natural area with minimal development.” and “There was little support and significant opposition to a hotel and to residential development.” Waterfront Project Community Engagement Summary (page 16/42)
CITIZENS FEEDBACK MAY BE PROVIDED VIA THE West Linn Waterfront Vision Plan – Final Review Survey. The faulty format prevents the survey from yielding objective, meaningful results. For example, Question 6 reads:
“Community feedback for the Pond District is preservation and rehabilitation of natural areas, access to the river and trails, AND appropriately scaled, lower intensity development…This is a future for the district I can support.”
Responses are limited to a sliding scale (strongly agree to strongly disagree.) Respondents may not express support for natural preservation without also expressing support for development of this area.
However, we must utilize this survey to inform the City. Lack of response indicates apathy; “strongly disagree”responses express opposition. The City can disregard apathy but must respond to significant objections.
WE URGE YOU TO COMPLETE THE
West Linn Waterfront Vision Plan – Final Review Survey.
The survey closes January 31st; we hope for submission of at least 1000 surveys.
Thank you for your support of the Willamette Wetlands and its wildlife inhabitants.
LOCAL RESIDENTS: Please email city staff and the city council with your specific concerns regarding the Final Vision Plan and Review Survey. Detailed feedback, impossible to provide through the defective survey, is crucial and needed immediately.
