Petition updateProtect vulnerable garter snakes near Gimli MB from getting runover.URGENT ACTION NEEDED

Jun 22, 2026
I just learned today that Gimli's Public Works department will present its recommendations to Gimli Mayor and Council for how to protect the snake den on June 24, in two days! They will not give me any information on what those recommendations will be ahead of time. It was Public Works that recommended the harmful berm idea, so that leaves me concerned about what they may come up with this time. Fingers crossed it will be something good, but they aren't telling me anything.
I live in Vancouver so won't be able to attend the meeting in person. It also looks like I won't be allowed to attend remotely.
So I urgently call on you to do two things:
- Write and also call Gimli Mayor and Council urging them to implement snake den protection measures that have been vetted and approved by MB Conservation to ensure these measures won't harm the snakes, their habitat or other wildlife in the area. And of course these measures have to be effective at preventing vehicle traffic from reaching the den as well. Mayor and Council contact info: https://www.gimli.ca/p/municipal-council
- If you live locally, please attend the meeting, voice your concerns to council and let me know happens at the meeting. Take lots of detailed notes. Take photos of any presentations. The snake den will be item 10 on the June 24 council meeting agenda. I don't know what time that will be at and the agenda has not been posted, but you can call Gimli RM to see if they can give you a better idea of what time this matter will be discussed. 204-642-6650. I just called and left a voice mail to find out and will post if I hear back. Council meetings start at 10 AM and go to 3 PM so it will be sometime in there. If you can attend, please contact me at info@neverspook.com to let me know what happened.
Thanks for your help!
