Virtual gender affirming care is lifesaving for trans and gender diverse people. In less than a month, thousands will lose access to this essential care.
It doesn’t have to be this way! Here are 2 possible solutions the Ontario government could implement to protect access to virtual care for trans and gender diverse people:
- They could make an exception to virtual care rules: Other types of care have been given an exception to the rules and can continue to provide virtual only care. This includes specialists and sub-specialized family doctors, such as addiction medicine physicians.
- They could change our funding to create a new funding system that coexists beside the existing system: we are appealing to the Ministry of Health to consider a separate funding model for gender affirming care that would guarantee long-term, stable funding.
This is a solvable problem, the Ministry of Health needs to step up for trans and gender diverse people — and with your continued support, we can keep up the pressure and hold them accountable to protecting access to the lifesaving medical care our community deserves.
