On February 10th, 2025, an article by journalist Brendan Skykora (published in both the Vernon Morning Star and Kelowna Capital News) identified confusion over the ultimate approving authority for the large septic system proposed near Coldstream Creek. However, Ministry of Environment and Interior Health staff indicated that they are now aware of the potential threat to Vernon's drinking water. The Regional District of the North Okanagan has engaged a third party reviewer to assess the threat to drinking water quality. This petition now has more than 3,000 signatures and has helped to bring attention to this threat to water quality.
