Washington High School recently removed a policy that protected transgender students and their rights, leaving them at risk of being outed to their parents by teachers and other faculty members, and making it ok for teachers to deadname them. Trans students deserve to feel safe and respected in their school, and Washington High School should not be an exception! We demand that the Policy ACAE-1 is not only reinstated but reformed to protect their rights with these policies:

• Teachers should be required to use the students name and pronouns without consent and/or knowledge of the parent
• Teachers should not be allowed to out students to their parents, as some homes are not safe for LGBTQ teens, and they could be kicked out or abused.
• SPORTS SHOULD BE GENDER INCLUSIVE. We're not saying they have to share a locker room, but at least let trans students participate in gender exclusive sports.
• The use of slurs like fag, tranny, etc should be taken more seriously both when casually used and/or directed towards a member of the LGBTQ community. You don't let students use racial slurs, so you shouldn't let them use discriminatory slurs towards other marginalized groups either.
