Protect Title X: Birth Control is a Necessity, Not a Luxury

The Issue

For more than 50 years, Title X has been a lifeline for people who need access to basic reproductive healthcare. It was created with a simple but powerful principle: no one should be denied birth control because they can’t afford it.

But that promise is being broken.

The Trump administration is quietly gutting Title X by withholding funds from clinics that provide free or low-cost contraception to over 800,000 people. Clinics in states like Utah and Montana are already being forced to shut down or charge fees for services that used to be free. And the cuts aren’t just to Title X—they’re part of a broader pattern that includes slashing Medicaid access and targeting Planned Parenthood nationwide.

For low-income patients, these cuts are serious. They’re real barriers to controlling when—or if—they become parents. And it’s not just them. When public health infrastructure breaks down, entire communities suffer.

Title X was signed into law under President Nixon. That’s how long bipartisan support for contraception access has existed in this country. Poll after poll shows the vast majority of Americans—across political lines—believe birth control should be accessible. So why is the federal government now working to take that away?

We’re calling on the Department of Health and Human Services and Congress to immediately restore full Title X funding and protect it from future political interference. Every person—no matter their income—deserves the ability to make decisions about their own reproductive health.

Birth control is not a luxury. It's a basic part of healthcare. And we won’t stand by while it’s stripped away from those who need it most.
