Protect the True History of the Macedonian People

The Macedonian people have lived in their homeland for thousands of years. Before the 6th–7th century, they spoke the ancient Macedonian dialect and passed their history and traditions orally, using only symbols and rudimentary signs.

Even when Slavic-speaking tribes arrived, the Macedonians kept their identity, culture, and traditions, adopting new writing systems like Glagolitic and Cyrillic for communication, but never losing their roots.

We call on UNESCO, EU cultural institutions, and historians to recognize the Macedonian people’s true cultural and linguistic continuity and to correct misleading claims that suggest they were newcomers.

“The Macedonian people have existed continuously from antiquity to today. They later adopted Slavic culture and Christianity, but always kept their distinct identity. In every village it was always clear who was Macedonian, who was Greek, Vlach, Turk, Albanian, Serb, Bulgarian or Roma – history cannot be rewritten by political propaganda.”
