The Issue

If you know about Flock cameras, imagine living under that exact style of intrusive, automated tracking right outside your front door and pointed directly at your door, private windows, yard and driveway.

Living under a constant surveillance grid is no way for any family to endure their daily lives. Across our 8-unit complex, management has decided to install 8 cameras at various locations such as buildings, trees, and posts, all aimed or able to move at managements discretion directly at private windows. These cameras track movement. I find myself having to reassure my children, even though I may be wrong, that they aren't being watched every moment of the day. Just recently, my 3-year-old voiced a sentiment that no child should have to recognize: "Now no one can see us," she said as we closed the curtains.

On top of this invasion of privacy, the installation of 12 toxic rodenticide stations across the complex poses an additional threat to the safety of pets, children, and local wildlife. The chemicals used in these stations are dangerous, not only to the targeted rodents but to our beloved pets and curious children who may unknowingly come into contact with these substances. This threat can't be underestimated, considering that up to 10,000 pets fall victim to rodenticide poisoning annually in the U.S., according to the National Animal Poison Control Center.

Furthermore, some residents have had their access to an essential common area, the laundry room unjustly restricted. Disability filings, crucial for some of our residents, have been actively ignored. Despite numerous requests, management continues to restrict communication, dismissively sidestepping our pleas for appropriate action and positive change.

We are calling for property management to take immediate steps toward providing a safe, private, and respectful living environment. The solutions are within reach and start with removing invasive surveillance cameras, replacing harmful rodenticide stations with environmentally friendly pest control solutions, and ensuring transparent and reliable communication with tenants.

We urge any community member far and wide, local governance, tenant associations, and community leaders to step in and hold property managers accountable. Ensuring our families' privacy and safety is not just a necessity but a right—and proving that this type of widespread police state surveillance needs to end.

Please sign this petition to demand action. Let us reclaim our privacy and adjust these harmful practices for the betterment of our community and nation.
