Hi folks,
A few updates:
1) We are holding a POSTER CONTEST, deadline June 1st. Full details here. We have already received a few wonderful entries. In addition to offering cash prizes to the top two winners, we will be offering non-monetary prizes, including free Lake Superior cabin stays near the Presque Isle Scenic Area of the Porcupine Mountains. Some non-monetary prizes will be available to those beyond the top winners, and everyone who enters will receive a prize (details to be announced next week). Please let all your artistically-inclined friends know!
2) We are currently organizing to hold IN-PERSON MEETINGS MEETINGS in Ironwood (next week), Ontonagon (TBD), Houghton/Hancock (TBD), Marquette (May 18th and/or May 31st), Ashland (TBD), as well as near the Presque Isle Scenic Area (May 20th). If you are interested in attending a session, please send an e-mail to ProtectThePorkies@gmail.com — in order to screen our attendees and their intentions, we ask that you provide us with your full name and a few sentences about yourself. If your area is not represented on this list, consider organizing an in-person meeting yourself! We would be happy to assist you with resources and guidance.
3) Here is a replay of Michael Kellett’s excellent presentation, “Is it time for a Michigan North Wood’s National Park?” from our last town hall (the Copperwood updates will be posted separately later on). Please note: Our campaign is not "endorsing" a National Park solution. However, we fully support free and open discourse in exploring options for protecting habitat and helping the region's economy evolve beyond the vicious and environmentally-devastating boom-and-bust cycle. Our campaign certainly knows the importance of rocking the boat (what with us challenging a mine in historic mining country and all...), and so we look forward to hosting many more boat-rockers in the town halls to come— because let’s be honest, folks: this ship is in dire need of good shake-up!
In solidarity,
Tom Grotewohl
