There has been a LOT of coverage in the news lately, as well as other updates. Here's an overview:

  • Dr. Mira Irons resigns as President and CEO of College of Physicians and Mütter Museum. She's out! Dr. Irons is shipping back up to Boston. In the interim, three College Fellows will take over Irons’s job until the board hires a replacement: Drs. Carolyn Asbury, Daniel Dempsey, and Sankey Williams.
  • Thanks to a $285k grant from The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage to collect public feedback regarding the display of human remains. It may seem odd, considering nearly 35,000 people have already weighed in for free, but perhaps they're just being thorough. The first town hall is on 10/17; participation is in-person only. The event will be streamed, but there is no virtual participation. Register here to attend.
  • ‘Mischief at the Mütter’ is canceled. As we feared, Mischief at the Mütter is indeed cancelled this year. What's really messed up is the administration tried to spin it that the staff said it should be canceled. The linked article includes quotes from several staffers who shed more light on this claim, saying they had no choice. The quotes from staffers are incredibly sad; if you go to the museum, please remember to be respecful and kind to the Museum staff. They're having a pretty tough time.
  • PhillyMag asked the question on everyone's lips, What the Hell Is Happening with the Mütter Museum? One of our organizers was able to weigh in, but perhaps what stood out the most were Kate Quinn's remarks. You'll see what we mean.
  • We have a new shirt! Natalie Linweaver of Wonder Witch Boutique approached us with a new shirt design and we love it! There's a rumor it may ever be made into a tote bag. You know how we museum people love a good tote bag.
  • Do you go to events? Are you willing to interact with people? We will send you fliers! Email or message us on any platform and we will send you fliers and stickers for free to hand out at events, post in your shop, or however you choose to get the word out! We've already sent out (and this is true) thousands of fliers and stickers all over the country. Totally free to you (thanks to proceeds from Protect the Mütter shirt sales).

That's the big stuff for now. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the campaign, we are making progress. We hope to see as many of you as possible at the town hall, and may even be planning a little post-event event.
