HEADS UP! CPO on the County's Agendas November 2nd and 9th, 2026

Gullah/Geechee Sea Island CoalitionSt Helena Island, SC, United States
Nov 1, 2026

Peace All!

Thank you to each and every one of you that has continued to stand with us in this on-going fight to protect the Cultural Protection Overlay District of St. Helena Island, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation!  The Beaufort County Planning Staff and the Beaufort County Planning Commission have both recommend denial of the current attempt to carve Pine Island and St. Helenaville out of the CPO zoning.  However, their recommendations have to be heard by and voted upon by Beaufort County Council members.  So, to that end, we need you to show up and write in more letters to Beaufort County Council and the Natural Resources Committee for the council to let them know that they should deny this request and deny taking a settlement!

Gullah/Geechee culture is priceless and cannot be bought!  The epicenter of the culture needs to remain protected by keeping the CPO intact!

TOMORROW, November 2, 2026, the Natural Resources Committee will meet at 3 pm (not 4 pm as you may have seen advertised or posted previously).  The Beaufort County Council will meet on November 9th at 6 pm at 100 Ribaut Road in Beaufort, SC.  Please get there early for both meetings.  Public comment sessions are now having time limits unfortunately.  So, only a few people may get to speak at the podium but your presence will make a difference if you are there to stand up in support of those that speak to protect the Cultural Protection Overlay District.

The federal case on this matter has not yet been heard.  However, our voices have been heard and we will NOT stop speaking up now!  STAND UP!  SPEAK UP!  Hold pun de Gullah/Geechee culture!  Protect St. Helena!  UPHOLD the CPO!

Tenki Tenki!

Peace!
