Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared our petition about the former All Saints School / Leatherhead Trinity Nursery site.

With the deadline for objections to the latest planning proposal approaching, now is an important time to make your voice heard.

The latest application is asking for some of the safeguards attached to the care-home permission to be dealt with later, rather than before work starts.

We're concerned about what this could mean for wildlife and biodiversity, demolition, construction traffic and access. Surrey County Council's Senior Ecologist has also objected to changes to the biodiversity conditions, saying important ecological safeguards need to be in place before and during demolition. 

Parking and traffic are another concern. A 66-bed care home will bring additional staff, visitors and service vehicles, potentially adding pressure to Aperdele Road, Kingston Road, Clare Crescent, Merton Way, Woodbridge Avenue, and The Fairway, as well as surrounding residential streets. Recent works have already demonstrated how quickly parking pressure can build, with approximately 20–30 spaces temporarily affected in the immediate area. 

🌳 What are we losing?

This isn't simply about replacing an old building. 

The site has been part of the community for generations and has provided opportunities for children, families, groups and community activities.

The proposed replacement is a 66-bed private care home providing residential, nursing, dementia and respite care. The plans include five communal lounges, five shared dining rooms, an activity room, cinema, café, hair salon, private dining room and landscaped gardens for residents. 

These may be excellent facilities for the people living there, but they are not public community facilities available to everyone in North Leatherhead.

Comparable Surrey care homes can charge £1,900+ per resident per week, depending on care and accommodation. At 66 beds, that's potentially over £6.5 million a year in gross resident fees at full occupancy.

So we have to ask:

How will this development actually benefit North Leatherhead and the wider community?
