From the moment we landed in Svalbard, our expedition team of 98 scientists, artists, educators, policy-makers, and citizens from 25 countries stepped into the frontlines of a climate emergency. Glaciers that had stood for millennia are now retreating at shocking speed. We sailed to nearly 82° North, once unreachable due to thick sea ice. Now, it is open water. This was not a triumph of exploration — it was a devastating measure of loss.

This is no longer a warning. This is a planetary emergency.
The Arctic is melting. Our future is melting.

The Arctic acts as Earth’s thermostat. Its white sea ice reflects sunlight and keeps the planet cool. As it melts, the dark ocean absorbs heat, accelerating global warming. The Arctic’s Sea ice regulates ocean currents, weather, and rainfall patterns. Its collapse threatens food systems, economic security, and the very livability of our planet.

Yet, the Arctic — one of the last pristine ecosystems on Earth remains vulnerable to industrial exploitation. Unless we act now, we face a cascade of irreversible consequences for all life on Earth.

 
 We Call on Global Leaders to:

 1. Fully Protect the Central Arctic Ocean and Last Ice Areas

Declare the Central Arctic Ocean and the “Last Ice Area” as a marine sanctuary — free from mining, oil and gas drilling, industrial fishing, and transpolar shipping. Recognise it as a global common, critical to climate stability and biodiversity.

 2. Elevate Polar Bear Protection to CITES Appendix I

Grant polar bears the highest level of international protection. Stop all trade — legal or illegal — of polar bear parts. Their declining numbers reflect our declining stewardship. Their survival is a litmus test of our will to act.

 3. Slash Greenhouse Gas Emissions Immediately

End fossil fuel expansion. Immediate transition to clean, renewable energy. Reduce short-lived climate pollutants. Peak global emissions now. The Arctic meltdown is accelerating — our climate response must be transformative. We call for a Global Net Zero by 2035

4. Invest in Science, Education, and Indigenous Leadership

Support Arctic research, storytelling, and community-led monitoring. Elevate Indigenous knowledge in all Arctic policies. The Arctic is not a myth — it is a lived reality. We must learn from and stand with its original stewards.

5. We urge Everyone to ACT WITH LOVE, SPEED, AMBITION, UNITY, AND HOPE: The world must act together. Delay is not an Option. No more debate. Let our action be the story future generations remember, not our excuses.

Why This Petition Matters

The Arctic is melting four to seven times faster than the global average.
 Over 90% of Arctic Sea ice has vanished since 1979.
As the ice disappears, extreme weather, sea-level rise, and ecosystem collapse accelerate across the globe.
Future generations will inherit a broken Earth — unless we change the story now.
